This commission meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:15 p.m. to learn about the Liturgy and to prepare for the various liturgical seasons, feasts, and special celebrations. This commission recruits and trains liturgical ministers and promotes various forms of devotional prayer. Commission members oversee the liturgical ministry areas listed below. Join a group of adults who lead the Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the Sunday morning Mass, when the Diocesan Covid policy allows. The adult leader proclaims the Liturgy of the Word in an age-appropriate manner and facilitates the children’s understanding of the Good News. A “user-friendly” lectionary and children’s guide are provided. Virtus training is required.

Cleaners ensure the church is ready for all liturgical celebrations by cleaning it weekly on a rotational basis. Volunteers maintain the areas of the Worship Area, Gathering Space and Pews.

Help grow the groups who disinfect 90 minutes after a weekend Mass by wiping down pews, door handles and the restroom. It takes only 15-20 minutes with three people. With a few more hands, a rotation schedule can be made that keeps the burden light for everyone!

This ministry is for someone who would like to make sure that our baptismal font is sparkling clean at all times which includes an annual cleaning of the font prior to the Easter Vigil.

This ministry is necessary to bring weekly Communion to over 100 members of our community who are unable to attend Mass due to age, illness, or other circumstances. This ministry involves bringing the Eucharist to people at their place of residence and visiting with them. Virtus training is required and will resume when Diocesan Covid policy allows.

This committee works to strengthen and deepen the spiritual and sacramental life of the parish by offering opportunities to spend quality time with our Lord in prayer and worship.

This ministry requires knowledge of parish procedures for both medical and non-medical emergencies that may take place during Mass. It also requires the ability to give calm, clear, and concise instructions in various emergency situations. Training will be provided.

Altar servers assist the priest during Mass by participating in the entrance procession, the presentation of the gifts, the preparation of the altar, and holding the missal (the book used by the priest). This ministry is open to boys and girls in fourth grade through high school. Training sessions and periodic enrichment experiences are provided.

Commentators welcome people to Mass and introduce the Liturgy of the day. A brief synopsis of the Gospel is given. A clear voice and friendly attitude is essential for this ministry.

Individuals or families carry the offertory collection, hosts, and wine to the altar during Mass when the Diocesan Covid policy allows.

Greeters assist the ushers in welcoming people with a smile and making visitors feel “at home” here at Prince of Peace and help with hand sanitizing at the entrance of the gathering area. Individuals or families are invited to become greeters prior to the Mass they usually attend.

These ministers assist the priest and deacon with the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. Ministers of Holy Communion must be in full communion with the Catholic Church and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Training is provided.

These ministers proclaim the Word of God at Mass in an inspiring and meaningful way. They carefully review the Scripture passages and practice reading them aloud before coming to church. Training is provided.

These people assist with setting up for Sunday and/or weekday Masses and returning the books and sacred vessels to their places in the sacristy after Mass.

These ministers bring the Blessed Sacrament in the ciborium from the tabernacle to the altar during Communion time. They return the ciborium to the tabernacle after Communion has finished. Training is provided. (You must first be trained and commissioned as a Minister of Holy Communion.)

Ushers provide hospitality and security for the congregation before, during, and after each Mass. They assist with seating, taking up collections, the Communion procession, special needs, and the opening/closing of doors for parishioners as they arrive/leave Mass. Adults and youth involvement is encouraged. Training is provided.

The cantor serves the assembly by leading hymns and singing the Responsorial Psalm.

Our choir serves the parish by singing bi-monthly at the 10:30 a.m. Mass, when Diocesan Covid policy allows, as well as for Christmas, Easter, and other major liturgical celebrations. Rehearsals are prior to the 10:30 a.m. Mass. There are no auditions to join the choir. All singers (high school age and older) are welcome to participate. No musical experience is required.

The ability to play the organ is a great gift to the Church. Here at Prince of Peace, we have an instrument that produces an organ sound without requiring technical organist skills. If you can play the piano, learning to play our organ is very easy. Training will be provided.
